HAIRY SITUATIONS: BETTER HAIR
I just started going through Rachel Stewart's blog and since this is not Tumblr and I cannot just reblog this came from targetqueen.blogspot.com (expect a couple reblogs)
Like for shizzle (yes I did say shizzle) Michael Jordan took notice of this woman because of her hair.
WHAT THE MACDOODLE?
Unfortunately this is vastly still relevant.
There are those of us who make hair choices for men.
I find that the women who cut their hair and find themselves liberated is because...they no longer pick and prim and cut and tease their hair FOR MEN. Because there is a really strange obsession in multiple cultures where hair is a woman's glory and therefore men love that ish. It's like the icing on the cake of feminity. Her body is gorgeous, she's soft, she beautiful and then O GOSH THE HAIR!
*sigh*
Admittedly, part of me wants to cut my hair off, for that sort of liberation. I've heard a lot of guys say though, if you bald don't come near me. short hair girls are ugly. ETC ETC granted a lot of this stuff is from Twitter and these idiots are the ones that say 9 out of 10 times people don't mean what they say on twitter but...it's enough to make some women uncomfortable with their hair choice
I have 3 friends who recently cut it all off. And they said they felt liberated. Part of them felt uneasy because now there was a need to defend their feminity. There comes with baldness or short haired-ness a sort of militancy or dominance that a lot of men are afraid of. Sad.
But this is about a perm...which is a whole nother can of "WHEW CHILD" or discussion. But natural hair comes with its baggage, but often times like short hair comes with rebellion, militancy, dominance, hyper self confidence...that a lot of guys feel like initially they can't handle. Too bad it just can't mean.....I love myself and I love my hair. Isn't the texture beautiful?
Conclusively, how sick is it to send the message that her hair caught this man's attention. Or furthermore that because it was permed it caught his attention? I think that there is a real pride to be admired in being a confident natural...or a confident short haired chicka...or just plain confident....there is too much in our culture that says we shouldn't be for the sake of a dollar.
