HAIRY SITUATIONS: BETTER HAIR

I just started going through Rachel Stewart's blog and since this is not Tumblr and I cannot just reblog this came from targetqueen.blogspot.com (expect a couple reblogs)
Like for shizzle (yes I did say shizzle) Michael Jordan took notice of this woman because of her hair.

HAIRY SITUATIONS:FRO FRO FRO

A blog dedicated to my fro: this is before the cut

HAIRY SITUATIONS: 3 INCHES SHORTER

WELP. I cut my hair. (note sad face lol)

I severely damaged it last semester trying the whole all natural products, then just cowashing, then back to Cantu.........my hair was a DRY FRAZZLED MESS.

my hair began knotting at the ends......like I had never seen this before. It was terrible!! My hair was breaking like crazy. It even began dredlocking it was so dry. This. was. not. my. texture.

And I would see my bestie's hair looking moisturized and soft -what my ish USED to look like and was like dang we've switched hair lol. It was soooo beautiful. I was like what is she doing with natural products that I'm not doing?

I had to realize I'm a low maintenance chick. Everytime I would try to read folks long regimen's on BGLH my eyes got tired and my attention diverted. I never got through it! ...or when I did.....I was like yeah I'm not doing all that, I don't even want to wash my hair now lol. Folks use way to many products for me.

I went home got it flat ironed and cut. I hadn't seen it that short since...........Freshman year of high school. Two weeks later I came back home had it washed and blow dryed and it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SOFT. Like too soft. Like strange soft. (pic to the left) I chalked it up to it being flat ironed the previous week like maybe that contributed to it *shoulder shrug* But I tried doing the two braid thing on the side of my head (pic below) and then taking it down for the soft wave pattern (pic below) and an hour later the waves would fall in the abyss of straight. My hair was so soft it was holding nothing. LOL (my mama said ur hair grow fast like you got some white or indian in you...you got some white or indian in you......YOU TELL ME!!! LOL)

before I came back to Madison I had it washed, conditioned blow dryed. Now I didn't watch her the week before but I watched my ma do my hair and when I say NOTHING came out my head...ABSOLUTELY NO HAIR SHEDDED. I posted a video on youtube with so much hair all over the place it was the saddest thing ever. She then combed my hair -no hair. Blow dryed -no hair. Ummmmmmmmmmm...........whenever I did it my hair would be all over the bathroom! I thought it was just natural hair shedding. What was I doing wrong? I don't even wanna touch my hair. I kinda wanna leave it to my mom. But she's in Chicago. I am here. In Madison. Not to mention my hair is so soft it won't even braid well. It's like trying to braid a white girl hair. I'm laughing but I'm serious. This ish just keep coming down. Anyway yeah this is where I'm at. O and I'm using Creme of Nature -again

Hairy Situations: My Hair Diary

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO my hair....my hair has been a mess for the past month or so.

I had restricted my hair care to just co-washing -eliminating shampooing and I liked how my hair wouldn't curl and I didn't have to comb it out. It just waved.....I really appreciated that. The problem was is that I didn't have a moisturizer for my hair throughout the week so it would curl at the ends into these big knots...it was breaking like crazy. My hair looks so frazzled. I fear that I'm going to have to cut off a good two inches. I'm going to get it straightened and cut.

Anyway I was looking for mid week moisturizers I tried shea moisture but like my hair just got really....thick and too curly. I didn't like the texture of it. I went back to pink lotion but that....wasn't doing much to help. Then I went back to sleeping on my wild hair which didn't help. I finally decided that my best bet was to return to cantu.......where my hair was significantly SOFTER and didn't break as much. I bought the conditioner BUT I think that herbal essences hello hydration works better in making my hair softer OR it just doesn't work as well without the shampoo first...so I'll let you know when I wash my hair because I remember cantu making my hair soft but I def used the shampoo first and I need to shampoo I haven't don't that in about a month.

I put my hair into flat twists last week but instead of those big luscious curls I got my lil curls lol which is fine...but that isn't the look I was I going for. Nor was my hair as soft. I figured my hair is a lil damaged right now. It just needs a lil TLC.

I went to walmart and I bought this brand of moisturizer that I'm really digging right now. It hasn't broken as much or at all for that manner.

I haven't really been taking pictures but I'll get back to that. TTYL

HAIRY SITUATIONS: HEAT DAMAGE!

So...you've been doing your natural ya dig for some months now particularly 13 months you are almost a full natural...and then BOOM! you decide to go get your ends clipped at the shop and of course they have to flatiron it, but u are ok with it, you figure that yo hair can withstand a little heat since you havent put heat on your hair for quite some time....then two weeks later after the shop you wash your hair looking to see those beautiful curls...and your washing and washing and washing and washing...and for sum reason they arent coming back...and then you cry!.....yea thats the story of my life....
Below you can see what really happened...

(13 months w/o a perm-transitioning)-BEAUTIFUL!

(oohhh wiiii, thought my hair had grown, it was cute straight and shiny)-NOT!

(Two weeks later, I washed....and DAMAGE! DAMAGE! DAMAGE! And that is when my hair is wet so it shouldve looked like the 1st picture above...and it didnt) :(

My thoughts: Honest to say, although i said I wouldnt cry about it i did one night, it really broke my heart because I became so obsessed and proud of my 13 months..and I think I was more upset of the fact that I spent those months struggling with transitioning, becoming okay with natural hair, and everything that comes along with making this change and seeing the tight pretty coils and nearing full natural and then it just kinda going off the clip more so than my hair was damaged...if you know what i mean(like you spend sooo much time on something only for some person to come walk past and just tear it to shreds) thats what i mean.

But Im going to get over it, the more I wash it, its steadily coming back, but the curls still arent tight they are really loose and there are some spots that just arent reverting...but its ok..ive decided that the next 3 months, all the way through december Im going to work on getting my hair back to its healthy state, so moisture moisture moisture moisture!.....I am using a new product line SHEA MOISTURE!...and ill be writing a blog on that in the near future

But that is all! Tip of the day. DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR FLATIRONED BONE STRAIGHT, AND WITHOUT THE NECESSARY TECHNIQUES AND PRODUCTS TO FLATIRON YOUR HAIR. IF YOU DO IT THEN DO IT CORRECTLY!..MEANING MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE AND LOW HEAT SETTINGS!..consider this a warning!

HAIRY SITUATIONS:MORE OF THE BERET CAP

SO. this week (or everyday since the last post) I have faithfully worn my hair this way

Everyday. Every other day I take the two braids down and moisturize......with this stuff that's basically Pink Lotion and then braid them back. I retwist the two strand twists in the front curl them (every few days...I realized that I sometimes rolled them too tight and was stressing my hair so I just put the bonnet on....I like the loose curl look anyway)

Product wise.....I need a shampoo. I haven't shampoo'd in about two weeks (I co-washed last week) Um...I need to start providing links to my youtube videos... I dread washing my hair cause ya know all of that hair shed and then it is such a freaking hassel getting it all out the shower....and off the floor....off the bathroom floor mat. It get's everywhere (especially if I blow dry) Anyway I don't know what to try! Everytime I go in that Natural pharmacy on my campus it is a natural shampoo wonderland and ever since my fiasco with Aubrey Organics I've been hesistant to try more things natural ESPECIALLY....when Herbel Essences Hello Hydration was such a wonderful positive experience I really wanna try this Komaza....BUT...that's 60 bucks on something I might not like...is it worth it? I got the money to do it but I don't like wasting money...my checks are not that impressive at work. I swear I live at that store but I'm getting checks barely over a hundred (cuz we get paid weekly) IDK......I just might bite the bullet and order it and if I don't like it....herbal essences it is.

I really want to get into wearing head wraps.

I'm contemplating braiding my hair.

Until next week.

HAIRY SITUATIONS: HAIR HISTORY

Just like most little girls, my hair was pretty long, pretty pretty lol and long!
Then I received a perm. Im not exactly sure when i started to get perms i asked my mother and she knows nothing, everytime i ask her a question about my young years, she clueless and to get me off my back just say the first thing that comes to her mind, but i would guess maybe around 5th grade? i do not know at least i know it wasnt in 3rd grade, but anywho...I do not remember telling my mother i want a perm or anything like that maybe I did but im pretty sure I got one because perms make your hair more manageable. All i remember is enjoying the length of hair for many years, always been the one with one of the longest black girls' hair in my classes. Never thought about the health of it just knew i liked it long and straight.

*I believe this was in 3rd grade and my hair was pressed*
It wasnt until i was older, until i realized the state of my hair...sophomore year of high school inoticed breakage and my mother did too and chop chop is exactly what happenend all the way up to my chinny chin chin....that was tragic lol...but I got used to it and it grew back in two years...actually the longest it has ever been, i was me again...I was getting perms about every weeks, even though my scalp was very sensitve and it burned like hell but i had to get my hair straight as possible.
*This was at the end of senior year of high school in 2008*
College approached and soon after breakage again I had to cut my hair once again this time just below my ears i believe this cut was in march 2009. But at the end of 2008 I decided that I was going to go natural, I was tired of having to cut my hair evert time i had lots of breakage. So during this process i flatironed my hair with a lot of shea butter oil sheen. It was very shiny but definitely not bouncy, but I was ok with that. But in july of 2009 i said i could not do it anymore, and I went to the shop and got a perm. MISTAKE!...since I have not gotten a perm in about 9 months it was extremely hard to keep the perm in long enough to get all of it straight, it was burning really bad and I told her she had to take it out. After a few weeks I regretted getting that perm when i had went without it for 9 months, which had never done before. So then I had to start completely over.

*The day i punked out and received a perm in July 2009*

Once again it shed really bad at first but it stopped and less hair came out of my hair. I was happy and more determined this time around. SO far it has been ONE year since that last perm and it feels great. I have been inspired by some many people on youtube and other websites to grow my hair long, healthy and beautiful and thats my goal. When I graduate in 2012 my goal is to walk across that stage with long healthy hair.

As of right now, I joined a hair growth challenge on youtube that lasts for about a year and half and during that time I will be trying various organic products to help me reach my goal. Im very excited about this and cant wait to prove to my people that we can have long, beautiful straight hair.

*Natural me!*
